Our big boy, lots of muscle, lots of heart and very affectionately known around the grounds as Big Blue.
benny's addition was a hesitant one, dilutes weren't common in the show ring I grew up in but at the urging of a mentor, we took the trip to check him out. His drive is absolutely beautiful, it was at a year and has continued to be strong and intelligently directed as he's aged. Seeing that year-old pup dive for a decoy with such intense focus then called off with an immediate response and happy check-in with his breeder was an absolute joy and wiped out every bit of hesitation on our end.
From the start Ben has been our big earner, the first in the SIKC to earn his Schutzhund, and the second Dobermann to earn his Conformation Championship. It should be pretty clear from his ribbons alone but he very consistently placed first in his groups and won shows from day one - even as unenthused as he was about being in the show ring he always threw his all into it.
He's everything you would expect in a Dobermann, highly intuitive, charming, and very much a velcro dog that prefers to be as close to his (current) chosen person as possible.
Named after the tale of Lorelei, he's just as apt at luring the unsuspecting - whether that be to get a treat he shouldn't have, get into an area he shouldn't be or appearing unassuming enough to catch an attacker off-guard Ben is every bit the intelligent Dobermann.
Though he's retiring from the competitive scene he'll likely be continuing to work as long as he's healthy and able. It's a sad day, we'll compete with him - we're hopeful that his offspring will give us even a sliver of the intense presence that Big Blue has.
